When I hear the phrase, “Project Management”, the first thing that comes to mind is an outline, in some shape, of what a project should look like. What I didn’t know was that there were so many tools to help build that outline. The resources provided to me, gave me a sense of some of the tools and helpful functions that could be used to create a more conducive and effective outline.
Personally, I’ve never been a fan of outlines. When I was in elementary school and had to make an outline before a writing assignment, it was dreadful. I would much rather start writing and go make and make corrections. However, that doesn’t work all of the time. It also doesn’t work when there are so many factors that need to be pieced together perfectly in order to make a project what it should be in the end.
It is important to detail steps and processes along the way that may seem insignificant at the time but can eventually end up being the thing that was missing all along.
The hardest step for me, when starting anything really, is deciding where exactly to start. There are so many directions I can go, and each of those directions has their own fork in the road. With everything laid out in front of me with the help of these various project management systems, it makes the first jump just a little easier to take.
With the implementation of a project management system while creating the White Paper, all my ideas will be in one place to pick and choose exactly what I want included and what I don’t. The practices I cultivate here will help me once I reach the work force and have to juggle many different projects at once.
