Reading & Writing

  • Chapter 10 – After The Shoot: Editing
    • What the human eye/mind does automatically is what videographers and editors try to accomplish manually. There are multiple steps in order to complete this task successfully. When going through this process, the first instinct is to go straight to cutting what is not necessary. However, what should be the main focus is how the viewer is supposed to react vs how they are actually going to. When editing various segments of video together, it is important to always keep track of what has been modified already so that things don’t get lost in the process. Another consideration is the speed at which the overall video comes out. This again, goes back to the viewer’s reaction. Are they supposed to feel rushed or maybe more relaxed? That will contribute to what the pacing should be. Sound is the main unifier when dealing with a bunch of different video puzzle pieces. If the audio is out of whack, more than likely that means the video will be too.
