This past summer, a grandmother was taken from her grandmother after 21 years of love. She passed from cancer after 5 years of fighting with all she could. In an effort to keep her memory alive, the granddaughter collected certain things that reminded her of the grandmother that she loved so dearly.

When I was first deciding what to do this photo essay on, I had no clue. Then I was looking around my bedroom one day and realized that I have a lot of items that represent my grandma. Most of them were hers that I inherited once she passed, but a few were things that she had given me before. What I wanted to accomplish throughout this process is documenting how seemingly ordinary items can have such a deep significance to those who know what/who they represent. A lot of people have mementos that mean something to them, whether it’s something simple or more complex.
In terms of the pictures themselves, they aren’t all that special. They quality isn’t the best. It wasn’t my intention to make them the best pictures ever because it’s what’s in the pictures that need to capture all the attention and focus of the viewer. I also didn’t want much else in the photos either. I took a few more zoomed out, effectively capturing more the surrounding area, but they didn’t give me the outcome I was looking for or imagining.
